About
A tenant network built by renters, for renters.
Tenant Nexus is a national tenant organizing network and rights library. Renters use it to understand the law that applies to their own address, document a problem in one place, and get routed to a real organizer or legal aid office instead of a generic call center. Each issue type has a plain-language playbook: what the rule says, what evidence to keep, what a reasonable next step looks like, and where the deadlines are. We launched in Virginia and are adding states one at a time.
The platform is for renters first: people facing a repair that has gone unanswered, an eviction notice, a deposit that never came back, a lockout, or retaliation after they complained. It is also for the people who organize alongside them, including chapter coordinators, tenant association leads, and legal aid staff who need a clear record of what a household has already tried.
Tenant Nexus is built by tenant organizers, housing advocates, and volunteer reviewers, with renters contributing the playbooks themselves. Every rule in the library carries a citation and a review status, and anything still waiting on an attorney is labeled as general information rather than advice. Our chapters are local: the Richmond chapter answers Richmond cases, and a city without a chapter is honest about it.
We are not a law firm, a labor union, or a legal insurer, and we do not appear in court for you. Membership dues fund organizing and are not charitable donations. If you are reading this before you sign up, the best place to start is the rights library or, if something is happening right now, the emergency steps page.
Awaiting attorney review
This playbook is written and sourced, but a qualified Virginia reviewer has not signed off on it yet. Use it to understand the landscape and to prepare, not as a legal conclusion, a deadline, or a remedy.
